Waveform Libraries?

I have a midi keyboard and drumset, and want to add a waveform library to the computer that will be activated by the musical instruments. I know there are pre-existing Acid loops, but aren't there also synth waveforms that can be added directly in the computer that turns any midi keyboard into a synthesizer?
