Newbie Question

Hi,

I've got a couple of images here which should help explain what I'm trying to do:

Essentially, I'm trying to get a tighter radius on the corners of that inner bevel, without having to use a whole load of knife lines. Is it possible? The bevel is similar, I suppose, to something you'd find in a calculator or mobile phone. I have tried to knife the detail in but I'm not sure this is the way to go and it's incredibly fiddly trying to get the extra geometry into the right places, since that bevel is on a slope.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One trick to sharpen up metaformed curves is to use bevel or smooth shift and duplicate, or barely offset polys to double the points where you want it tight.

it's not the cleanest solution, but it does work.

It's a sit file so I can't open it but to make sharper corners without a lot of geometry, highlite the corner points and use the weight slider on them.
You'll see which way to go as soon as you start moving the mouse.
It sets weight from 1 point that you hilite BUT, the weight will continue towards the next point along a vertice, dissipating linearly along the way. So if there are compound curves then those will tighten too.

If i think i understand what youre saying, my simple solution would be to subdivide it. that would give it a less rounded shape

thanks CMP, prospector (Weight Slider? How? Where?) and objuan for your suggestions. Yet again I see how LW, like other powerful applications, enables a multitude of potential solutions...!

I've now got to experiment with them all and see which works best for me.

Actually, does anyone know of a mobile phone or calculator tutorial where this sort of inset window is present? That would help a lot too.
