View Full Version : After Effects issues from VT3

RTV files imported into After Effects from VT3 are having issues. I'm seeing weird interpolation issues especially around people's eyes, when I render files from After Effects, and view them through VT3 again. Any ideas on this? Also, when I try to make an .avi from an .rtv from after effects, I get weird bands on the footage. You can see this just by scrubbing across the .rtv in after effects. (Not ram preview, just scrub) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Probably better way is don't using rtv's...Try with normal uncompressed avi. Since i stopped play with "rtv-after fx trouble game", everything is fine.

Rendering rtv in after effect isn't a good idea.
there's a loss in quality due to yuv-->rgb-->yuv conversion.

I'm using Picvideo lossless mjpeg codec now without problems.
you can render on any non toaster system, the only drawback is more processor usage = less layers in realtime in TED.

Sounds like you're working in 16 bpc color in After Effects. There is a known bug when exporting a 16 bpc composition to RTV. Basically channels w/ max value (32768) don't get exported properly. This will be fixed in the next patch.
However, since RTVs are 8 bit 4:2:2 YUV files, it's really not that useful to export 16 bpc RGB files from After Effects to RTV.

I'm not aware of banding issues when scrubbing RTVs in After Effects. Keep in mind that After Effects has a dynamic resolution setting that kicks in when scrubbing in which the image is downsampled.
