Let it be known:
Go try it on the Apple forums and see what happens.
Ok, I can't keep a secret - I'll tell those of you who don't already know.
See, here, we have what seems mostly to be a "true" forum in that we can air our content, discontent, suggestions, and so forth, regarding NewTek directly and even expect civil responses from "real live actual" representatives of NewTek itself.
However, try posting about anything you don't like about Apple or their products on Apple's forums, and the post gets erased real-quick-like.
I've been in three threads which have been removed:
The first was about pricing policy: I bought Final Cut Express and four days later a new version was available. I asked why Apple doesn't upgrade within a certain period for free. GONE!
The second was about Apple's poor (in my opinion) marketing on their home page - it's Mac's 20th birthday, and, cripes, their homepage features an ad for iLife suggesting "It's like Microsoft Office for the rest of your life." Uh, ok. So, it's like a bloated, ill-tested and use-assuming user-unfriendly package? Great news for Mac users! GONE!
The last post that disappeared was one in which I asked if anyone knew of an uncensored forum for Apple discussion. GONE! Oh, the irony.
Here's our flower-power, power-to-the-artist, open-minded strength-of-the-individual anti-mass-consumer company, censoring their boards more vehemently than just about any other company I've seen. Yes, it's their board, and they can administer as they see fit. So f#cking what? They're LAME.
I have lost a LOT of faith in Apple as a company. They no longer know the roots of their philosophy. They should be ashamed, and stop acting like they think the curbing of "free speech", or, at least, creative debate, will somehow help them and their cause.
I'll say this: as much as I LOVE Apple and their computers, I am beginning to think they're in one of their emotional downcycles. It's times like these I really understand how some people may be tempted to upgrade to a PC instead of a Mac, crossgrade their Adobe software, and be done with it. Oh, and get a "free" monitor in the process.
So as much complaining as you wish to post about NewTek (here and in other forums) we might feel lucky they're still willing to humor our rants, respond, and generally treat us like the individuals we are. A little longer wait for V8? Not out when you expected? Be glad you can post about it without your words disappearing like so many hypervoxels under the bridge.
Whew! I feel marginally better.
