Posted this on CGtalk and thought since it's being done in lightwave I'd post it here. Using Lightwave 7.5
It's Nightcrawler from the X-Men...Leaning more towards the comic than the movie, but that may change. Dunno. :)

Great looking torso...Will keep watchin this one!!!
I will say that the rib cage seems to stick out to much for me...looks a but unatural...but then again hes a mutant isnt he.

Thanks :) Yeah, I agree about the ribcage. I'm going to tone it down a bit I think. I started this out of my head with no references but then found a model sheet of 'classic' Nightcrawler and the ribcage is REALLY pronounced...It extends out further than the pecs even. I guess I'll get through it and spend a bunch of time tweaking from there anyways. :)
Yep, looking pretty fine to me! I would make the tail slightly longer and thicker, I remember it being a little more prominent in the film.

Everything from the wrist down is proper except that it is all too thick. Tail should be longer. Nightcrawler has always been small as far as body type, but rather well build. Other than that i'd say it's looking REALLY good.
Keep us posted.

funny I should come across this post after finally seeing X2. I think it looks good for a start with no reference in a comic book sort of way.
Do not use the movie for a reference. There are a lot of poser Xmen gurus who have only seen the movie and not read issue after issue of X-Men (however uncanny they may be) and will tell you fatten this or shrink that.
A good thing about actually reading the comic books is that you will learn that as an artist changes so does the depiction of the characters. The characters never look the same for more than say 50-75 issues maybe 120 tops.
From one artist who grew up on these things to a modeler such as yourself, Do it your way.
my 02.

Thanks amirispop. :) I agree he's been done so many ways by so many artists...I've read X-Men for many many years. I'm not going to dismiss any advice that I think holds merit...But I'm also not going to randomly change the model based on EVERYONE's opinions. I think in the end I'll be able to come up with a version that fits right in the middle of most perceptions...Or at least that's what I'm hoping.

Had a problem with my account so made a new login. Was steele3d, now I'm erics..Woot :)
Here's an update. Added feet then connected the feet to the hips with some basic legs. This is just to set up proportions. I'm going to add some muscles and better shape soon.

PS : Ignore the aliasing. This is an opengl screencapture from modeller.

Hi.
The model looks real good, the only thing which disturbs me is the tail. Even if it is a comic-character, they normally have "known" anatomy, exaggerated or not. So a normal tail on any animal is an extension of the spine and it shouldn't stick out horizontically above his behind, but rather flow out of the spine and more or less cover the parting of the buttocks (excuse my choice of words, if offending, please substitute with more fitting words yourselves) :)
Other than that I think it is very good modelling, regarding the poly-flow etc.

Good point about the tail. I'll work on that today. :) Thanks!

Tweaking the feet more...fixed the tail. I didn't want it to slope down TOO much, but I think this looks more like an extension of the spine. Lots more work to do. *sigh*
