Who attended MW with Chuck and the gang? What did you guys talk about and what was shown?
At cgtalk Chuck spoke about Xcode briefly.
Would love to hear more about it from the Newtek mac programmers.
Lets get the pre LW8 release excitment going!

now.. I wasn't there in SF, but what did newtek announce at Macworld? did they finally ship LW 8? or is there a real shipping date annouced? I was in the impression LW 8 would be released in 4th quarter 2003, that allready gone, so when does Newtek let us know when and what??

Some of the Mac websites are carrying the Newtek press release about Xcode:

MacCentral
http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/2004/01/07/lightwave/index.php?redirect=1073466464000

Digital Producer

Nothing that regular readers of this forum wouldn't already know.

I haven't heard any of them mention the demo of Lightwave 8. Maybe that is better anyway (for the moment). Wait for the big release, or it may be like the boy who cried "wolf".

I was at MacWorld, NT had no booth, which makes sense to me given LW8 is not quite out yet. I did attend the demo and can confirm that I saw LW8 running on a G5 under Panther.

What was demoed was mostly the features that are now shown on the update LW8 preview page http://www.newtek.com/products/lightwave/product/8/videos.html

The NT guys were very cool, passionate about the product, and polite.

High end animation is going to be unbelievably easy for novices. The new dynamics (cloth, hard, soft) are very easy to use and powerful at the same time. They are also very fast so no more waiting every time you tweak something.

The other thing that struck me was that the 7.x UI was preserved and new stuff slipped in nicely, so no relearning required. Some handy tweaks here and there, but nothing to scare anyone.

Biggest good news for me was the Mac version was running! Can't comment on rendering, we spent all the time running through the features and after over an hour I had to go get on a plane, so I didn't see it all. There is lots in there! I will be upgrading no question.

Lastly, they (NT) want it to be right and I agree with this approach. So be patient the goodies are coming.

I'd like to see the next couple of LW demos posted to be done on a G5, just for giggles....

I'm curious as to proton's opinion of macworld, as I believe he's a PC jockey....

Well... no one is perfect I guess.....:D
