I'm trying to sort out the I/O capacity of the SX-8. From what I read in the literature, if you connect something up to the S-video jacks on input strip 1 (an input strip being the combination of the S-Video, YUV, composite input connectors), you are unable to also connect a YUV device to this same input strip.

Likewise, it appears that the output side of the SX-8 does not allow a user feed S-Video, YUV and composite simultaneously to three different decks.

Is this true? Is is possible to have a YC device, a YUV device and a Composite device all connected to input strip 1 and select between them in software? The same question applies to the output side of the SX-8.

This would appear to allow you to use either BNC's or the S-Video connector. It would also appear to be a limitation to the SX-8 and VT3 in general.

With 24 separate composites, 8 svideo, or 8 component ins,

4 outs any choice on output,

I am not sure why the SX 8 would have to switch WITHIN inputs or outputs.

Thats more ways in and out than any of our $15k plus hardware switchers.

Yes Thom, what you have observed is true.

The output of the SX8 can be Y/C or Component YUV, and of course Composite is always available.

The SVHS inputs can either be inputed with the Y/C connector or Column a and Column b of the BNC connectors I believe. Versatility for you if you want to look at it that way.

Either way, an 8 component switcher for under 8 grand is pretty impressive if you ask me.

Our inputs are flexible, but not that malleable! ;)

Any of the 8 rows can provide at once:

1 component input
1 Y/C input + 1 composite input
1, 2, or 3 composite inputs.

On the output side, you have a few flavors as well:
4 composite outs are always hot + 4 Y/C or 4 Component streams of Program out.
