Darkside is looking for people ? Is this a paid job or just for the fame ? Good luck...
If you don't like to run after your boss to receive your paycheck, avoid darkside like the plague !!

As we all know this is a tough time for anyone in any industry, but for approximately 6 weeks work I would think it's a paid gig. Also the project sounds like a fun one and would be good on anyone's reel. I always believe you get what you put in and if put in a lot you'll reap the rewards later ie you'll get a fantastic piece for your reel that will create more opportunities. This is more important in my eyes :)

Hi Philippe, actually I have worked for a few companies and have experienced similar situations as yourself and I agree it may not be fair. Unfortunately in this economic climate sometimes there is very little you can do. So you have to take what you have, make the best out of it and move on. These small creative companies have creative people, it is not in there interest or nature to exploit people and they mean the best when they do take people on. And Darkside Animation is certainly a company that means the best.
If any company ask you to help them through a very difficult time by working min wage or free then you are presented with a chose. Either cut you losses and find another job or keep your current job with the long term view that you will get what is owed, probably more, and be at the top when the company grows. I know a company which has been through this and they are now doing well and the people who stayed are now at the top. Obviously if the money is not enough to survive on by default you have move. But if you can't find a job you'll be in the same position minus the potential of being in a growing company.
Running a company/business is very difficult and I recommend you try it. I've tried and failed. Even tackling your own pet project or making a short film pitch is difficult. I'm sure if you have no budget you would still want good quality people to help make your short with the promise that if it becomes successful you would share the success and give them the roles that they deserve to make the feature. A company of people will more likely to succeed than just one person.
You know as well as I do that this industry is very difficult to get into and maintain. You need the passion and tenacity to stay in. Also don't forget it is a very small industry.
I do hope you find your success, but going back to the point about the job advertised, I do think it is a great opportunity for the right person at the right time. And for approximately 6 weeks you should have no doubt that this is a paid job.
Good luck in you endeavours and if you're around London I loved to catch up.
