Hi all,
There are many free 3D models on the net .. but most are of questionable design value, or modelling and texturing quality.
It occurred to me that many of the better resources out there are probably not known to the community here, so I thought I'd share a few of my sources... and perhaps you have some too.
Plus we don't want Clumsy to get angry...
One GREAT one (at least in range, sheer number and design value) I have from Exception:
http://e-interiors.net/
nice sofas:
http://www.arketipo.com/Modelli2D3D.asp
chairs, including Eames:
http://www.hermanmiller.com/DotCom/jsp/designResources/3DCADDetail.jsp?prodCatId=10&navId=7
only a few models here, but very useful and great quality (imac, ipad, etc.):
http://www.modelplusmodel.com/free.html
Big range, hit and miss quality:
http://www.archibase.net/gdl
and something niiice:
http://loadproject.blogspot.com/

As you probably know, B&B Italia gives access to its entire catalogue of rather nice models once you join their architect lounge; Moroso as well, but there's a website that collects all of them...
designconnected (http://www.designconnected.com/catalog/manufacturers_3d_pages/official+Manufacturers+Free+3D+Models)
Requires a bit of hunting because some manufacturers seem determined to hide their models under the most obscure links, but if you have an idle afternoon it'll serve :)

I found out about this one when I was in need of a train:
Looks like a russian crack site with stolen models. I would remove the URL.
Those construction vehicles are De Espona, its not free.

What! Bloody hell, really?! I'd found it through a rather simple google search... Thanks for the heads up - now I have to figure out if I actually used anything from there. Although, are you entirely sure? Because I do have a few deespona models (and their catalogue) and the quality is an order of magnitude better than what I see on the russian site. Hmm.
Oh well, better safe than sorry and so on.

That's a great one, cheers!
The e-interiors.net site also often has the CAD files attached, very handy for plans ..

Pretty sure it is. We bought the despona cd set encased in a green plastic cover and I went through the whole library before to check if any models are corrupt. First week of my job. Lol.

Looks the same to me. I'd be suspicious if other models are legal.

nice thread :)
great free vegetation models here: http://www.3dmentor.ru/free-models.html, but you need max or c4d (best with the excellent riptide OBJ converter plugin) and a bit of patience to convert them to lightwave.
the other great free plants download repository is by xfrog: http://xfrog.com/130-free-xfrogplants-now-available/ - lightwave ready!
