Thought I'd post up my first model in Lightwave. I was watching the dvd's you get free with 7.5, the ones by Todd Grimes and it inspired me to make a witch for Halloween. I did actually have a nearly complete head a few days ago, but as some of you might have read, my computer hard drive went a bit weird and removed the files without my knowledge … well in till I tried to open them again. I'm going to add wrinkles using the wrinkle plugin someone suggested and render her in a kind of realistic cartoon style, like the characters from Shrek. I want to get her skin to look really old, was thinking of using a tortoise skin. I'll try out sasquatch for the hair, try and get some really mad old hair going.
Well onto the body now, going to be a while getting all her cloaks to look good. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Cheers
Peter

try droping the eyes and pointing the ears. Put a couple moles on the chin and face with a couple soars. Break the teeth up some and put long hairs in her nose and ears. Looks good so far.

Yeah I'm going to add a few warts here and there and scars. I'll try modelling most of it but also get some done with bump maps. The ears are pointy but under the hat I'm going to carry on working on them though. I'll try lowering the eyes and see what that looks like. Her eyelids are actually just in a neutral position at the mo but when I animate her I'm going to get her to open her right eye really wide but the left one is always going to be squinting a bit.

I might suggest making the nose a little more structured as in bumpy instead of droopy. It almost looks a little phallic right now. Not bad at all though for you first model, just keep working at it.

Scuff here up a little. They live a hard life. Give her a little hair stuble. Couple boils on mouth and neck. Even add a half eaten rats leg hanging off the side of her mouth. Droop her hair down some also. Good job

Yeah I'm really looking forward to adding all that nice detail now that I've got the main structure. Going to try using that wrinkle plugin, cheers for telling me about that HRgiger Be good to get sasquatch going for things like hair, eyebrows even nazel hair. Funny how someone mentioned a rat, I was thinking of having one living in her hat. I'll send some more round when I've got some renders to show, still in model at the moment.
It was a little bit decieving when I said it's my first model, What I meant is it's my first model in lightwave 7.5. I haven't used Lightwave for over 3 years now so I'm really rusty. Been using in house software for games modelling so it's good to get back in to high renders. I've got some old models from 5.5 so maybe I'll post them up as well.
Thanks for the replies guys I'm taking it all on board.

Sorry been away for the weekend. I haven't done much else to her yet, I've finished her ears off and sorted out some little bits like lowering the eyes. I also had a prob with a metaball suddenly appearing but I've got rid of that as well now. So I'll start getting some scars, warts and wrinkles on her tomorrow and maybe start on her body. It's really annoying because now I've moelled the head I just want to get on and texture it when really I should finsih the whole body fisrt. Does anyone have any tips on texturing in Lightwave, whats the best way to apply textures to her face?
As for the DVD's, it was a summer offer if you bought bought Lightwave begore September the 15th you got it for a reduced price and you got 5 DVD's.

Ok, I've now worked on the arms and body. The body still need a lot more work as it was simply smooth shifted out and so far hasn't had detail of any kind added. The neck is also really wrong at the moment. I want her to have a proper turkey neck and have it so the clothes hang of her and you can see her collar bones sticking out. She's also got a hunch back but you can't see it from the angle I rendered it at. Sorry for the crude render, I just wanted to try our radiosty as I haven't done it before. Any comments are really welcome.

Ok sorry this pic is another one of just shoulder height but I just wanted to do another radiosty test. I have actually made all the body now and the hands so I will get a full body shot up tonight. I'll start texturing her tomorrow. Looking at the render it looks like I'll need to add a bit more depth to her collar and maybe work on the ribs a bit, but I'm hoping textures will help with the ribs

Forgot to say, I've still got to add some warts and stuff to her face but I'm still not sure of the way to go with this. Hrgiger mentioned the wrinkle plugin. I've tried it but I don't think it's right for what I'm trying to do..well not unless I use metaform on the face which I'm thinking of doing as I can't see how you you can get fine deatails with just using smooth shift on a sub div surface? If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.
Cheers
