View Full Version : Can’t get LW9.61 to play back audio files in preview

Hi All,

I can’t get LW9.61 to play back audio files. I can successfully load the audio files into LW9.61 via “Scene Editor” / “Audio” / “Load Audio”. The audio file is displayed in blue on the bottom “Key Frame” time line and also in the “Graph Editor” behind the key frames. But when I try to scrub through the time line or make a preview there is no audio, without any error messages appearing.

When I then try play the audio file via “Scene Editor” / “Audio” / “Listen” (audio file name), an Error dialog box appears with the message “Error Unexpected preview error.” And yet all of my animation previews work 100%, only it doesn’t play the audio file.

When I revert back to LW9.5 (taking great care not to confuse the config files between the versions) the audio play back works 100%.

Is there a bug with LW9.61 or do I need to adjust my LW9.61 configuration?

The following are my system details:

LightWave ver 9.61 (Win32)
Build 1555(Win32)27-May-2011
OS Windows XP (32bit)

Many thanks,

Orazio

What exactly are you doing with this audio file, are you lip syncing to it or is it music?

At present its lip syncing with facial expressions, it's impossible just to work from the audio wave displayed in the graph editor. There must be some differences the way lw9.61 and lw9.5 handle audio files. Everything else has remained the same on my pc.

Another annoying problem there is no MS uninstall for Directx9, all you can do is apply updates hoping it all works. And I can't afford the down time to rebuild my pc in the chance it might work.

I have this problem as well, with 9.6 32bit Intel (haven't tried it in 64bit). I believe it to be a bug as I don't ever remember this happening on 9.5.

The fix, assuming your audio file is loaded already...

Go into your scene editor, audio, and make sure "Audio Scrubbing" has a tick beside it.

The Audio Scrubbing is unable to be ticked in LW9.61 as per the following:

Load Audio (working)
Audio Start Time (working)
Listen (doesn’t work, error message)
Audio Scrubbing (unable to be ticked)
Fixed Frequency (can be ticked)

The really odd thing is if you play the “Preview “the audio doesn’t play and yet when you save the “Preview” as an .AVI or Quick Time file the audio works.

When I load the same files in LW9.5 it all works 100%.

I agree its a bug, but it dosen't seem its common as there not much information about it on the net.

thanks,

Well, I can toggle on Audio Scrubbing, and Listen works, so it must be some other audio related issue with your individual system. It's strange that it will work for you in 9.5 on the same exact hardware.

From what I can see, the default 9.6 install doesn't have it ticked, and I'm unsure if it was "pre-ticked" in 9.5 or if had ticked it at some point.

I am using the exact version you're testing.

Ivé just been trying some audio files here to wav format to drive a vibration of an object.

same issues here to, the wav clip loads and effects the object, but I cant get a check on the audio shrub, and I can´t preview listen to it.

Have to check at home with another soundcard.
This is on lightwave 10.0 64 bit

Might be the directx that needs to update..accordingly to this.

Audio:

Note: When users get an "Unexpected Preview Error" message, it means they need to update their DirectX runtime for their system.

Hi,

There is no MS uninstall for Directx9, if the updates don't work properly, all you can do is rebuild your pc from scratch. Not an option for me now

Thanks for the post, I thought it had something to do with directx, but had no way to confirm it.
