View Full Version : Slow feedback in modeler

I'm posting this here because I can't count on Newtek getting back to me promptly with an answer.
I recently re-installed Windows 7 and now Modeler is really slow on the interactivity. An example, if I select some polygons on an object and then choose select connected, the polys get selected in a consecutive fashion, first in one view-port, and then in each view-port one by one until all are complete. Sheesh! Talk about a drag. If I use Bandsaw Pro, there is no real interactive update, if I make an adjustment I have to sit back and wait for it to refresh.
This all worked perfectly before and now it's just ridiculous. Is it a graphic card driver update problem, I don't know. Anyone suffer this problem or know what might be causing it?

Are you sure you are using fastest OGL mode (MTS+VBO) in modeler ? is it maybe set on GLSLS or Stream ? That is slow surely :).

Thanks Lewis, yes it's set on MultitextureShaders and Buffered (VBO), I even installed a version of 9.6 to see if that had the problem (it does). It seems to be something up with my new Windows 7 install.
I have a big job on and this is going to really slow me down if I can't solve it.

That's really weird then.
also be sure that you didn't set any Compatibility mode to LW icon 'coz that slows down memory (renderind is 3-4x slower then).

Oh dear, I had this on heavy scenes, but also on a machine with an ATI graphics card. Any info on your specs?

Ups... unfortunately I wasn't... I really had that feeling. Guess it was driven with sometimes having some issues with textures and having to tick "Legacy" for consistency over bling bling.
So ok... MTS + VBO all the way :D

How rude of me not to respond to my own thread. It turned out to be my Nvidia driver needed to be updated as windows 7 puts in a standard Microsoft driver when it installs.
'compatibility mode to LW icon'-Lewis
I don't even know what that is, but now I'm curious since I prefer faster renders, I'll look into it.

If you don't know about it then it's probably OFF (which is fastest way in Win7). Here is screen-grab of ICON properties where you set that option.
Basically you can set Win7 to emulate older windows just in case some programs have problems with win7. I was running LW 10 in that mode at begging because of one problem and rendering was much slower (which i find-out much later :)).
