Impressive modelling!
As to what it is, well a couple of guesses...
Sentinel thingy from the Matrix?
The Lexx?
Looking forward to see how it turns out whatever it is!

yeah it's obviously an alien, but not the Giger's one,
it's much the alien warrior style in "Aliens", wich is different from the original Giger's creature....
BTW, it's not really important....
Anyway, great start, but now I want to see more!!!!

Hi,
Looks too mechanical to be anything living.
Not sure yet though, lets see more.

It's not too difficult I see when you're in to strange pets.
This will definitely give it away then hahaha:D
Grtzzzzzzz....
erm, we guessed already! it's an Alien!!!! as cyroz said - it looks like it's based on the more recent Alien design first seen in 'Aliens' which was modified a little by James Cameron.

Well no secrets here anymore...
Almost finished with the head (don't think the body will follow soon), here a little update. Am going to add some yaw-muscles and more tubing and probably change the mouth a little bit.
The mouth gives some headaches and serious *ss tweaking, am trying to make him/her smile nasty before he/she has ya for breakfast hahaha...
Grtzzzzzzzzzzz...:D :D :D

It doesn't look like it's smiling, I think you could put more detail into the shape of the mouth/lips/jaws. Love the detail on the rest of the head.

Here another update.
The grin is what I was tweaking, still not satisfied, but ready for posting.
Added more detail and gave it a bit more character...

Grin update...
looking cool!
I don't think it's the grin, it's the lips and chin, they're a little on the rounded side, try 'sharpening' up them a little.
how did you go about making the 'edge beading' follow the underside of the head? rail clone of a plugin?
can't wait to see this textured!

Tanx for the comment, will try that later on, hope I don't have to mess up my mesh by adding more geometry.
Have been tweaking this mother for a day now I guess...
About the 'edge beading', I think you mean the thingy that goes around the head?
Well I did by selecting freezed mesh points, see my thread at support:
Sub-D rail cloning (http://vbulletin.newtek.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12156)

Hey, that's the kind of work I like to see.....
It's looking pretty great so far. What are you using for reference?
cg_freak - so did you use this PointFit plugin or just extract the points from the mesh and create a curve for rail cloning?
I've often thought how cool it would be to have a plugin that took two curves and created a composite of the two, be very handy for allsorts of things especially what you've done.

HRGiger, I used a plastic model wich I found cleaning up the attic a few days ago. It's great for reference because it is quite detailed.
As for the 'edge beading' Matt I didn't use any plugins, just the old fashioned way of template drilling the freezed object, selecting the points wich I need, copy them to another layer, clean them up to make a nice flow of points, then reselecting them in the right order and make a curve, create a disc with 6 sides, put it at the beginning of the curve (wich is in the background layer), then do a rail-clone, delete the first and last disc, and sub-d it, et volia a nice tube wich follows the contour of the object, well pretty much so...:D
Her an update of an angry f*cker, hehehe;)

Are you doing the body also?
cg-freak
10-15-2003, 11:37 AM
Well here some texture trials on this robo-lobster ;), tell me what you think of them please.
I'm not that skilled at UV-mapping/texturing, so I tried getting some results with procedurals, wich you normally should use as less as possible I read somewhere.
Comments on the texturing are very welcome so I can carry on with some final renders of this thingy:D
HRGiger: I will model the body of the alien one day, because it's one of my favorite movie-characters, but not right away..
Thanx for your comments sofar.

Very, very impressive modelling.
You are indeed a CG-Freak - and a very good one at that!
Why should you not use procedurals when you don't need to?
Adrian.

The saliva definately makes it come alive and makes me think fondly of those sweet little creatures we've come to love.

Thank you very much,
As soon as time is on my hand again, I will definitely model more of this guy, a little animation of his head is something I want to try before that:D
