How do I keyframe visibility

This might seem like a simple question and I am definitely no lightwave expert, but I need to know how to keyframe the visibility of objects in the scene so that they can fade in and out.

The problem that I am having is that I need objects to come in and out of the scene. Right now what I am doing is keyframing it off-camera and then bringing it in. This is causing problems however with my MD. If there is any way of keyframing the visibility that would fix my problem.

If only I knew how.

That would be Object Dissolve... see object properties... Render tab... the envelope next to Object Dissolve

I guess you could also you the graph editor in the trans channel.
