While there are presets in the Camera properties panel which automatically set the pixel aspect ratio for a variety of resolutions, I'm not getting one for this particular 852X480 setup. I'm not sure if this is a 16:9 or a 14:9 frame ratio. Final output is on a plasma screen display. Should I go with "1" or ".9" for the pixel aspect ratio. Your help is appreciated. thanks

I think you should go with '1.2' ratio. (if plazma is 16:9) I just finished a project that was created for plazma (16:9) and I used D1 widescreen setting 720x480 with 1.2 ratio. Everything turned out well. I hope this helps.
nickillus,
how is this images getting to the plasma display? I have never come in contact with those dimensions, and I suspect you could be hurting yourself.
so please give me an idea of how you are getting to the screen from the render.

Thanks Calico_ do you recall what was the actual native resolution of the plasma display. I've been told that if the display needs to reinterpret the image quality will likely suffer.

eblu_ the quicktime movie (or stills) will be going through another studio/individual for additional elements in post processing (most likely AfterEffects). I keyworded "852X480" in Google and actually came up with a large number of Plasma display pages- Viewsonic, Zenith, etc.
Thanks,

ok, but... 852x 480 likely has very little to do with what you should be doing.
I think that you'll be doing a 720 x 480/486 with a 16:9 squeeze on it.
the 852 x 480 sounds very much like 864 x 486 (which is d1 widescreen in square pixels a 1.0 ratio)
you should (unless you yourself are doing post to the render, that involves rotation or DVEs) use 720 x 480, or 720 x 486 at a 1.2 aspect.
this saves render time, btw.

nickillus,
I was never asked to do 16:9 before this project. I didn't have much time to do detailed research so I gambled. I don't have plasma nor I had time check it somewhere before giving it to a client. I did check it on the regular TV and I was getting letterbox image. I did ask for plasma's aspect ratio and the answer was only '16:9'. To be honest I couldn't make to test presentation but client informed me that it was perfect.
If you have enough time, do some tests and bring them with you to your local home electrinics shop. Test them on several plasma models.
That's all I can think of.

calico & eblu,
Thanks for your input. This is new to me, also and I will be doing tests on this tomorrow as you suggest. I was suspicious of the "direction" I was getting on this so it's great that you're input is along the same lines. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks again.
