View Full Version : 32-bit Render Nodes for Lightwave 10 64-bit edition?

I know that 64-bit render nodes work properly using Screamernet on a 32-bit Lightwave computer. However, with Lightwave 10 I now have the ability to run Screamernet in 64-bit mode. I have a bunch of 32-bit Windows 7 systems I'd like to utilize as render nodes, but they are "not compatible" with the current Screamernet configuration when trying to initialize the render node.
Question: If possible, what is the proper way to configure a 64-bit Screamnet to utilize the 32-bit render nodes properly?
I figure that the 32-bit version of LWSN.EXE is needed, but haven't found any recent discussions covering this topic that hint to additional requirements. Any suggestions or tutorials would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the only way to mix nodes like that would be to have separate ways to launch jobs. We use a lscript that gives the animator the choice to launch their job as either 32 or 64 bit. All the nodes are 64 bit but we have the choice on which lwsn flavor to launch.

You would have to run 32bit from the main system to avoid any problems.

Not sure I totally understand the question (or the problem rather)
You can install 32-bit LW on those 32-bit machines and run LWSN all the same, regardless of the architecture of where they're being controlled from. I render in a mixed environment all the time.
What exactly are you doing or using that is telling you it can't?

the main ScreamNet host is running on a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with Lightwave 64-bit installed. The available rendering nodes consists of Windows 7 32-bit systems. When trying to run the LWSN.EXE file from the render nodes, a notice pops up saying that the EXE cannot be run on a 32-bit system.
As Newtek suggested, I had to install Lightwave 32-bit on another Host machine so that the rendering farm could operate properly. That worked!
In a mixed 32-bit/64-bit environment where the host is 32-bit and the render nodes are either 32 or 64-bit, that works fine, too.
