i am noticing the preview showing a slightly crumpled copy when i mirror an object in the modeler.

Looks to be a smoothing error. Reduce the smoothing percent in the surface editor until it goes away, or turn off smoothing and gradually ramp up.

correct me if i am wrong , when a user mirrors an object in the modeler the program makes an identical copy and flops the geometry on the mirror axis ?
if it is making an identical copy then the smoothing option should not be different from the original ...

IIRC mirroring is automatically merging points.
Check out whether you separated points (unwelded) to get correct smoothing, and merging is damaging this way of separation.
Instead use multiple surfaces, with the same settings.
