Would some one be so kind as to tell me what the serial cable from the SX84 to the computer is used to accomplish.

This is an interface from the computer to the rs422 converter built into the sx84 for controling broadcast decks that use rs422 protocall.
I used it to controll my betacam decks in the old days.
