Just got SpeedEdit2 and a brand new computer and none of the firewire ports worked. I replaced the 1394 drivers with the Legacy Drives and got SpeedEdit to capture from DV but it won't output to my Panasonic DV-2000 deck. The deck is recognized but nothing outputs. I just migrated from VT-3 and am having a difficult time getting this sorted out. I still have some work in DV that I need to complete abd lots to archive from tape.

Any help would be appreciated. I am running Win7

More info. I do not even have the option in my preferences to turn on firewire preview. The deck is being recognized but if I try to send to DV tape the whole program crashes. I have tried it with all size projects and it's the same story.

I really need some help here !! This system is too expensive to be a doorstop

When you select an output in SE2 are you selecting your Panasonic deck from the list? If so, try using the "generic" FireWire output that's listed and see if that works without crashing. I have a JVC DV deck, but if I select that I have problems; the generic option works. This is on my XP system that also has VT5 installed on it, but that shouldn't matter.

In addition to Scott's post, if you are using SE on a laptop that has firewire, SE more than likely won't allow you to use the firewire port to preview.

I have tried it both ways and neither works. My concern is that I don't even have the firewire preview in my preferences and the system is more than adequate for playback thru firewire. Perhaps a re-install of SE2?? It appears my Newtek dealer is not much help. This is a brand new system and it has already been back once for removal of a Blackmagic Shuttle which was conflicting with SE2 and crashing.

Well, first of all we found that the SpeedEdit2 manual erronously shows Firewire preview in preferences. That is an error as that has changed.

Second, after 2 re-installs my Firewire output returned and I breathed a sigh of releif. The only problem is that my Panny DV-2000 deck won't communicate with SpeedEdit2 so "Send to DV Tape" won't work for me unti I figure out what's up. Until then I can use the Firewire output for my SD projects going to DV tape.

Now to print out the SE2 manual so I can begin to see the differences in SE2 and my VT3 Toaster Edit.

Are you running any other video/firewire communication software concurrently? If so, you need to reboot, start SE 2.0 only & then try connecting. Other software like moviemaker or others will conquer the commline and stop SE from being able to access it. It's happened to me dozens of times, usually with Avid Media Composer.

Nothing else running at the same time. Reinstaled SE2 and got it to work but now having problems with a timeline that skips and it's just a 30 sec promo.

And it didn't jerk on your previous install?

No it didn't and my "Convert to SpeedEdit HQ" is not working. What a PIA.
