Heres a couple of renders i've done to day.
The house is based on the one thats been in most 'Halloween' films. Nearly all the details and scale have been taken from the 'Halloween: Resurrection' DVD.
I still have a lot of work to do on this, especially texturing the house. Eventually i want to add a 'Michael Myers' model in there, but thats a bit beyond me at the moment!
Originally i had volumetric lighting to represent streetlighting but then found out that saslite and volumetrics dont mix.....
Does Sasquatch work with volumetrics?
I can't afford that at the moment as i've spent all my money buying Lightwave, so if anyone knows or has tips on how to mix sas and volumetrics then they would be much appreciated.
Of course any tips and critiscism's would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance...

Nice house --:)
but I think the Sas stuff is actually detracting from it. I would suggest increasing the coarseness of the grass so it looks less furry, and ditching the Sas bushes and using a poly solution for the them (like clip maps or Tree Designer, depending on your tolerance for polygon bloat). Maybe then you could use volumetric lighting on the house and just comp in the grass.

Thanks for your comments, i think i must be psychic...
I just bought Tree & Leaf Designer this morning for that very reason. The bush did look too furry.
Heres a pic with the new bush and i changed the trees that cast the shadows too. You can just make out a few of the branches in the top left, (a bit too straight for my liking though, the branches that is... :) ).
I'll have to look in to compositing the grass. Sounds like a good idea. Never comped anything yet though so i'll have to get the books out!
Thanks again for taking the time to leave a few comments.
Cheers

That definitely looks better.

I agree.
The tree shadow adds depth to the scene too.

Before i read the words, i scrolled down to look at the pretty pictures... I recognized it as michael myers' house right away... needless to say i'm a big fan of the halloween series - top notch stuff.
From just a stylistic point of view, I think it might make the scene a bit more 'creepy' if you killed the porch light, and put a light on in the room in the upper right, front corner of the house - an important place in regards to the whole halloween storyline.

Thanks for everybodys comments. Heres a new pic from a different view. Altered the length of sas grass and altered the lighting too. Added some more foliage and an extra tree at the rear of the house.
I've tried your idea jman66 and so i've switched on Judith's bedroom light and killed the porch, (light that is... :D ). Nice to hear from another fan of the film, though im distraught now i've just found out about the possible new Myers vs Pinhead film... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh...
Thanks for pointing out the sidewalk jack. It does need the gaps that run accross the path closing up a lot and eventually i'll be roughing them up a bit too. I can't get rid of the tile pattern completely though as that's how the path is in real life. I'm trying to keep this as close to the film as possible.

Heres a pic to compare the real house to my model. I can see i need to make the lower windows a lot narrower. Not entirely my mistake though as i used the plans for the house in the latest Halloween film, so i blame them... :)

Thanks jman66, i just wish i could get hold of real blueprints for the house, my scale seems a bit off, lol.
I wish i could model characters too, one day i want to make a model of myers himself but i'll have to wait a few years till my skills improve i think.

yeah, probably the biggest challenge with a project like this is that they used a different house frequently... ie the house in the movies shot in 73' is differnt from those in 83' etc.
Overall, I think you captured the feel very well, which is probably a bit more important than having every detail correct down to the inch.
as for halloween 9 check out the news section on www.halloweenmovies.com, there was a poll of wether or not michael should fight pinhead; and the results show 55% no, 45% yes out of about 80,000 people, so hopefully that will have some kind of bearing on the final decisions. Hopefully they'll realize that the whole 'fight' thing is a bad idea.

Thanks for the link, the site is down at the moment though, probably because of all the complaints... hopefully it will be up tommorrow... or should i say later today. Only just realised it's 4am...
I'll have to take your advice though or i'll forever be altering the model and i'll never get it finished.
Right i should hit the sack i think and hopefully have some updates on tommorrow.

oops, I accidentally had a comma in the URL
http://www.halloweenmovies.com/
that should work... may be able to find a bit of good references on there under each of the movies.

Without the porch light we can't see much of the door. Maybe have a weak light on in the hallway like the shot of the real house.

Not added any updates for a few days because i've had to rebuild half the scene. For some unknown reason the trees and a few other objects were corrupted. Oh well it's a learning curve i suppose....
Anyway heres the latest pic. I've redone the trees, (though i'm not happy with the nearest one so i'll probably alter that later), altered the leaves on the ground and also added 2 houses.
As you can see i havent used any AA on the pic... does anyone know if it's possible to block selected objects from the AA process or do you have to do that using compositing? I ask because the trees look too smooth when AA is turned on. I've searched the site but couldnt find any help and the manual doesnt mention this so im presuming it's not possible, but maybe someone can give me help on this... thanks.

Here's the AA version so you can compare.
Very nice house. I think its missing the moon light blue hue to finish off the lighting. The house itself is fine I would just add some environment lighting.

make the road dirtier

Thanks for the tips. I will try some environment lighting tonight i think and hope the render times don't rocket too much.
The road does need dirtying and widening a bit too i think.

very cool house! maybe it's possible to make the trees less smooth by applying a bump map to them?

The only thing I can suggest is put a little more bump mapping in the road.
Other than that, great picture.
Adrian.
