I've been trying out 10.2.8 Version 2 on a separate partition and found a problem in Graph Editor when adding keys - there's almost a 1s time lag between adding a key to a channel and it appearing. If you rapidly draw out a sine wave in Graph Editor, adding 5 keys in a couple of seconds, the system takes another 5s to finish displaying the final curve.

I noticed this when I tried out 10.2.6 and now with 10.2.8 Version 2. It doesn't happen in 10.2.4 or below.

It feels like a driver-related problem with the Geforce 3 but it may be some system-specific issue. (I'm using a very old ATi Rage 128 16Mb PCI card for my second monitor and although that updates Graph Editor perfectly I'm wondering about a driver conflict.)

Can any other Geforce 3 owners (or nVidia card users) reproduce this problem?

Steps:

Launch Layout.
Select Light.
Open Graph Editor
Click on any channel.
With the add key tool, add numerous keys rapidly to the channel.

Hi Julian,
confirmed here on 2 machines.DP800/X.2.6/GF3/ati16ragepro sencond monitor
and aDP1000/X.2.6/GF4mx/with an even older ATI nexus 128 running the second mon.(i wonder how much longer i am going to get away with using this card, works great now tho')
if you move the editor window to the ATI driven monitors on either machine it goes away. points show instantly when clicked?
have not tried X.2.8, was getting ready to and they pulled it.

Hi paintboy :-) - thanks for checking that for me. I received another independent verification of the same issue in 10.2.7 via email so it looks like it's not an isolated problem. Just as on yours, if I move Graph Editor over to the ATi-driven monitor the keys appear instantly but if I move back to the GF3 then they're extremely sluggish. Even things like moving key values really bogs things down.....

the ati bug was taking down entire system...waiting for an editor
to update is anoying, but hardly a work stopper?
...just another case of technology whizzing past the limitations
of our recently purchased hardware...(long sigh, accompanied by the sound
of piles of money fluttering away;) are we having fun yet?;)

so..can we consider that the second posting of 10.2.8 is ready for prime time?

does it take away some of that goofy beachball time?

based on what i have seen today on the web, i would wait and see unless you like being a pioneer? theres lots of complaints about sluggishness of windows(OGL)
pokey redraws etc(OGL) nothing specific about LW, but with LW being so
dependent onOGL you cant help but wonder? GAWD does this ever stop?(no!)
the ever vigilant Julian Johnson has already confirmed slowdowns withGF3/4 cards with the last version of X.2.8 who knows about the "system de jour"
come on johnny hit that update button and tell us how it goes....;)

you bet...right away!

;-)

Maybe we ought to sit tight until/unless Panther looks to be stable...

I long for the days of 10.2.4, and if it weren't for FCP 4, I'd go back in a heartbeat!

I did update my computer (Dual 1 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM) with the second version of Update 10.2.8. I worked in Modeler for a short while today. But, it completely freezes! Not just Modeler, but my whole system. It's the first time I've had to reboot because of an application lock-up. I've rebooted about a dozen times today because of Modeler. Each time, I got less and less accomplished. The last time, the system locked up just launching Modeler. All my other applications (Adobe suite, Office, Safari, mail, etc.) seem to be working just fine. Modeler was working fine, too, last Thursday. That's not helping me with today's productivity. I am not sure if 10.2.8 is the culprit, but that is the only change that has been made to my system between last Thursday and today.:(

Katejob, if you're using an ATI card, did you install the HotFix (http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4267.html) after upgrading to 10.2.8?

Pardon my ignorance. Until this post I did not know what kind of graphics card resided in my machine. I was told - or thought, for some reason - that the NVIDIA GeForce4 came in our Dual G4s. A visit to the System Profiler proved me wrong. We have ATI's Radeon 9000 in our machines. I have installed the "Hot Fix" and everything seems to be running fine, again. These forums are great! Some one always seems to have a solution for whatever problem I might have. Thanks, Trip!
