View Full Version : LW 10 Displacement problems

Hi there,

I'm using Lightwave 10 on an i7 Win7 computer (64bit).
Everything is working fine ... but whenever I use a displacement map
and raise the Render Subpatch Level over 3 (default) Lightwave
renders for ever. This happens even with very simple objects.

Anyone else encountered that problem.

It worked will with all the pre-10 versions.

Cheers

I've seen something similar on my machine at home, which is a shame, since it is a nice i7 970 processor (12 threads). I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate x64 at home.

At work, the scenefiles works nicely and the only real difference between my homecomputer and workcomputer is the OS. We run Win 7 at work.

Thanks Cageman!

Just want to make clear that's not me who is making a mistake.
Will check it on another machine.

Cheers

Check out whether turning off mesh evaluation by multi-threads is fixing this..
Press 'o' to open Preferences, one of toggles on bottom, at least in LW v9.6.

Are you using Photoreal blur?

If so, Photoreal blur may be thinking a little too hard about how best to handle the displacement information. Try increasing the number of Motion Blur Passes so that Photoreal blur does not have to compute blur across the entire frame, but only for a given sub-frame.

If you think this is a bug, consider submitting the "very simple objects" content to NewTek as a bug report:

Hi Sensei, hi Celshader,

Mesh evaluation has been turned off all times, no motion blur used.
Turning on mesh evaluation makes things more worse, so I guess it's some kind of a bug. In Lightwave 10 Displacements are not really usable for me. Will send it to FogBuzz.

Thanks for your help

No problem. If possible, also post what displacements caused trouble for you here along with what type of subpatches. I've been using MDD Displacement Node, Bump Displacement and Texture Displacement on meshes subdivided up to millions of polys with no problems in 64-bit LW10.0. However, I am using regular Subpatches and not Catmull-Clarks.

Hi Celshader,

either nomal Subpatches or Catmull Clark making problems. My computer freezes completely (restart). Lightwave hangs up while computing the mesh freezing ....
Will also try new drivers for my video card.
