View Full Version : How do I texture a head using UV/Cylindrical Maps ??

Hi every body

I have been stuck on this for a while. I cant seem to get my head round texturing a characters head. I have modeled my character for my reel. I want to make look convincing !!

Now i've read up on UV mapping and Cylindrical Mapping Using Photoshop, BUT I dont understand

What the specular and alpha maps are for ??

I am really confused about this If anybody can help or if they know on a detailed START to FINISH tutorial on Mapping a characters head then that would great !!!

I am in real FIX Please Please HELP !!!

Are you talking about making a texture within Photoshop or are you talking about making the UV map to work in Photoshop within Lightwave?

The specular map is used to give a lot more realism to the model. The skin on your face has different values in specific spots. Like the pores in your skin will have less specularity, while other areas will have higher specularity.

I don't know why one would use alpha maps on a face, only thing I can think of is to blend layers.

Need any more help than just post.

The head tutorial in Inside Lightwave 7 uses a cylindrical map and planar maps 'blended' into the main map for facial textures...
