Nonlinear Morphs

Embassey VFX did this spot a few years ago when it was a heavy lightwave house.

I'm trying to figure out the curling in the morphs. Bones? I think they used lightwave for the animation but I could be wrong. Has anyone been able to pull off nonlinear morphs in lightwave?

no, but maybe you could mix morphs and a normal morph displacement
