Soften projection

I am trying to make a title for something I'm making in Avid. I'm shining a projection through a spotlight on to my comet but the image is all pixely and looks too clean. A friend of mine recommends that I soften and blur the light which will make it look more natural and not so perfect.

I have enclosed the image, has anyone got any ideas?

try bluring the projection image with image editor/add filter/Full precision blur.
if you want more control over whats blurry/whats not use photoshop on the projection image instead.

Thanks very much! As for Photoshop, I thought about that but it wouldn't stop the pixelation.

It looks to me like your projection image is not a high enough resolution. Try making much bigger and it should look better.
