I'm trying to make a diamond. I've got a really good shape for it but I can't seem to get a nice sparkly surface, so it looks like a real diamond. Transparency and Reflections just seem not to do it. I'm trying to do like a real high quality sparkly diamond.... Any ideas?

Bryce had a nice diamond texture, but i don't have access to that anymore since they aren't making it fo os X.

Do you mean the highlights and hot spots? If so you should be able to get the look you want using some LW plugins, and if you have DF or DFX the highlights tool will let you get real good (and real looking) "sparklies" with a ton of control.

Maybe that's what its missing, my diamond does look kind of flat...

My lightwave does have plugins, but I'm not sure if it has DFX or DF. Where do I check for that? And if I do have that where do I apply if?(I never heard of that otherwise I'd look for myself)

How about posting a pic. We can get a better idea of what you need to change.

It ain't cheap...but this is a good solution...still you could get G2 for this price...but the pictures are real "purdy".

Two things strike me as not looking right...

1. No prismatic type effects - i.e. colour fringes.

2. No highlights.

Not sure of the best way to address the first one, but use of bloom filters, or adding some tiny lens flares should fix the second one.

What's a bloom filter? I'll try it if it looks better then the flare....Still.. Any idea how to give it some prismatic look? I'm a poor college student and can't afford a nice plug-in...anyway to fake it?

Faking the prismatics is not easy. There's a guy over on comp.graphics.apps.lightwave who described a technique once ... even threatened to do a tutorial someday.

Maybe if you went over there and asked nice, he'd tell you how it works. His name is Dark Science, and he's really a very helpful sort ... good luck.

I know it's not relating to the "diamond" discussion, but the text could use less extrusion depth as it detracts from the diamond and makes the text look muddy.

"there's a guy over on comp.graphics.app.lightwave"

Whats's that? Is that a web address?

phantom_tiger,

that's a newsgroup. download free agent or use outlook express and add a news server ( you most likely have access through your ISP).

Then subscribe to the comp.graphics.app.lightwave group.
