I recently picked up a a second hand HP Mobile workstation (8710w) with
T7800 cpu
1600m quadro (512 MB)
4GB ddr2
new install of Vista 64
Drivers for the video card have been updated to the latest from Nvidia
LW10 (current release with core) install without a hitch, dongle and Licence good. Lightwave crashes upon start (appcrash)
however Modeler runs without an issue
also Core crashes upon start as well
I had a similar issues with my main system which had an Nvidia 8800gtx (core, Layout and modeler all crashed upon start)....off to nvidia website DL'd the latest driver release and presto it work no crash....I have since upgraded my 8800gtx to nvidia 470
is the nvidia quadro 1600m (512 MB) just too old of a card to run LW10?
I beleive the 1600 is about the same time as the 8800gtx in manufacture.

the dll file that is crashing is Nvidia's nvoglv64.dll I believe OpenGL...
with my main system before the video card upgrade..the GTX 8800 had the same issue until I update the driver and itl worked fine....the min requirements for LW10 is 8700gt
so the 1600m is definitely usable with LW10

Problem Resolved for LW10 32bit
1. open nvidia control panel
2. select manage 3d settings and went through the various presets)
a. the default is basic (crashes layout)
b. 3d default (crashes layout)
c. game development (worked)
d. modeler AFR (crashes layout)
e. autodesk mudbox - compatible (worked)
those are the ones I tried...so I can use Layout with one of the working profiles
big issue is why is not Netwek have a spot on the presents for such a great card..I know they used to be with 3Dlabs before they got out of the retail end of video cars

Just so you're not on your own with all of this... I had horrendous issues with an ATI card (had sooo many issues and others with my Dell XPS Studio 16, that they replaced the whole thing with a new XPS 15 with an Nvidia card) but try using a driver removal tool. Many times my problems are because the new installer doesn't remove all of the old. Especially in the case of installing a desktop driver instead of a notebook one.
Search for Nvidia driver removal/cleanup and use the tools, then reinstall the driver and I'm sure you'll get rid of errors! :D

thanks but the issue is resolved did you read it?
The issue is Nvidia 3d management
also it worked with LW10 64
So Nvidia really needs to get their act in gear because a default setting not working with Lightwave, that is something I do not understand...why is Lightwave not on the list of options for customized settings.

Yep, read it all... but thought it wasn't entirely resolved as the drivers only work with Lightwave with certain settings.
What I was trying to say was:
Sometimes drivers and settings, or random .dlls get left behind when you uninstall/reinstall/update drivers, so it may be worth, when you have the time, using some software to clean your computer of ALL drivers and starting again with the correct notebook/laptop drivers?
It could be corrupt/crappy mess of driver installations that cause this issue with the customised software.
All those customisation settings are for is turning ON/OFF the features below that are compatible with the software. It must be something screwy like a .dll from a previous install or one of the settings in the 3d settings thing that Lightwave doesn't like on your card.
Have lightwave running on a Quadro 5000 at work and it's fine and dandy no matter what setting I load.
