View Full Version : Inheriting JPEGs not working

So I've used SE1.5.5 for a long time as well as VT1 thru 5. Mixed and matched numerous other editors FCP, Premiere, Vegas, and Edius...but still find myself just a lot quicker on the NewTek side...and when I noticed SE2 could handle AVCHD I decided to give it a tr .

I recently went ahead and bought a seat for SpeedEdit 2 and immediately had an issue and I saw one post about it back last July, but no other mentions of it...so I wondered if it's been fixed or if there is a good workaround (I've already sent in a bug report).

When I drop a JPG on the timeline and adjust say the XYZ axis...then I choose to use an another JPG to inherit that clips properties...well, I see instant diagonal lines on my new clip (the "out of bounds" indicators). It also doesn't inherit anything. Oddly enough, if I now adjust THIS NEW CLIP...and then inherit it...then the properties are intact (as well as the diagonal "out of bounds" lines are still there).

Video clips appear to inherit just fine, but many times I'm quickly adding some movement to a still photo and in 1.5.5 and every version of VT it's been no issue to inherit. Am I the only one seeing this surprising bug?

Thank in advance for any thoughts!

FWIW, I can't confirm the jpeg issue. We have a batch process out of PhotoShop to export .png's. We started this proctice years ago because .png's took less processing in VT and we've just stuck with it.

Thanks Ted...I tried it and got the same results (which is good) ~ because clearly if PNGs are working with you, then it must be something on my end. I discovered the issue.

Apparently, I'm in the habit of holding ALT before I click and drag my clip onto the timeline (this isn't an issue in 1.5.5), however, doing that move in SE2 gives the diagonal line issue and doesn't work. However, when I move the clip onto the timeline first...THEN, held ALT, it worked perfectly...which is all I care about! Thanks for at least causing me to try a different direction with the PNGs. ;-)

This happens to me all the time (No inheriting issue)

The simple workaround is to make a tool shed preset instead of inheriting. It's a few more clicks but it's still quick. Plus it works every time.
