tweaktown has a benchmark on the new i7-2600K & i5-2500K CPUs using Lightwave 9.6

This is interesting, mainly because I have an I7-920 and want an I7-980X. So, with these new CPU's, the one I want will become cheaper :D.

The 6 core version, probably in a few months, is going to be impressive. I'd wait a bit if you can.

And so is the 8 core version... :D

I have the wrong motherboard for these new chips :(. The best I can use is the 980X, which is a lot better than my current 920 for sure.

If you have software attached to the computer, then it’s probably best to get a 980.
If not, I would get the new 1155 board & CPU.

One thing guaranteed, that Intel is going to make a new socket for each generation of CPU.

Been waiting for this to come out. Glad to see a lw benchmark. Need to upgrade my aging q6600.
There are some reviews at anandtech with the mobile version that perform quite impressive as well.

Well, the 980 will perform very well for the coming year(s). It's easier to replace a CPU than a whole motherboard (with drivers and so). Re-installing my computer would take 3 full days (lots and lots of software). I could buy a complete new computer next year or even the year after.
