Selecting points

Hello,

I am a new lightwave user.
I have been trying to select multiple points and have been unable to do so.
When I press control click, nothing happens. If i just click on them, they disappear.
Can anyone offer any advice - what am I doing wrong?

It's shift and click to add to an existing selection. If you have a wheel on your mouse it's the middle mouse button, much easier to use!
