Ok,
I have made a video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWwl_LPTtBE ) that shows you the problem i'm having cause i don't think i could explain it too well, and seeings how im new to weight maps maybe i'm doing something wrong. Anyways I try to sync my newely made weight maps to Layout but nothing happens.
I think the video explains it better (Even though there is no audio :S)
Thanks for any help.

I am not sure I followed every step you did in the video. I saw that you painted just the base of the thumb with your weight map. But the weight map should cover the whole thumb. And all the bones in the thumb need to have that weight map assigned to them in the bones properties panel.

As he said...
LWs weights dont need to be the same as the bone name, and each bone doesnt need its own individual weightmap either, but each bone either affects the whole object, or jsut the weighted area assigned to it in the panle as shown.
For a standard Tpose character in LW, all you really need are separator maps where areas of geometry come close to one another... so a weight for each finger, the head, neck, and L/R legs and sometimes arms is often all you'll need.

hmmmm, So i paint the whole finger, bones and all? Then call it what? anything? Then change the bone weight map for each bone in the finger to that weight map?

Yes in Modeler paint the whole finger with the weight map (just the mesh). Use just one weight map per finger. Name the weight maps something that makes sense for you. Then in Layout one by one select each bone in each finger and assign the appropriate weight map.
