Both are not photoreal, but fast as hell! :-)

It's really simple in the free version of Unity, just get you pretty model (baked shadows) into unity, slap a character controller + keyboard movement onto the camera and you're done. Depending on your scene you might have to add a collision mesh to avoid running through furniture, but it shouldn't kill you.

can UNITY3D support lws or lwo.

Any examples of stuff like this actually used on the web that are recommended?

You mean examples for released unity projects? There are lots, Unity is really well known and far spread for such a "niché" software. Lightyears away from flash distribution, but I guess the most spread realtime engine. Lego used it for the recently released kids mmorpg, Nickolodeon did a similar project. Of course these are games, but you can do anything with unity. I guess you will not find that many arch vis examples online, cause these things are only produced for some decision makers or interested investors.

What mike said. There are a few examples here:

thanks for that but what you think about Quest 3d for supporting lightwave

I (personally) don't think about it ..

Can you give me a reason why someone should spend a lot of money on a product, when he could have another one for free? And taking into consideration, that the free one can everything you'd need to generate beautiful, performant multi-platform archvis walkthroughs.
You can get all of your lw models into unity, for certain situations there's a bit of work involved, that's all.

Can I ask, will Unity allow me to actaully walk through my work, rather than record a movie of it. (obviously I don't mean walking, I mean being alllowed to explore whereever I want, to show the client kind of thing)

Hmm sounds interestng. So I can Build a building in LW, and put it in this unity programme and show the client what it would be like moving around. Cool

You can test the software right here:

Keep us in the loop, I would love to see your final piece(at least screenshots).
I used to use Sketchup for realtime walkthroughs.
It was perfect as you could get a more stylised rendering and not get bogged down with clients querying brick colors etc.

That's based on a Unity script that reads the native LWO format and re-creates the model. It's not available, and I doubt it will be, so this is the best solution for now to do lightmapping in Unity when using LightWave: http://www.vimeo.com/18005252

That is if you have Unity Pro...

*sigh* of course you're right... it's simply the funniest thing to play with on a computer (once you're able to do a little scripting)

I thought LW 10 gives you the ability with walking through a building or the environment.

I don't have 10 yet, but no 3D package like LW can give you the realtime performance of a dedicated 3d engine. And even if it could, do you want to send them a screencapture of you walking trough the building with LW gui and object handlers or do you want to send them a link where they could simply inside the browser move by themselves through an uncluttered scene? Or a standalone exe (can do it aswell).
