Yo,

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good set of tree models to buy for lightwave. For Architectural animations. Good quality but not 40,000 polygons per tree?

Ive seen evermotion and x-frog.....

This isn't really low poly, but you might find it useful if you need some higher res trees:

Thanks. That looks interesting. I guess Im more looking for a packaged up set of a ton of trees with textures.

Try OnyxGardenSuite. Tree Generator that exports to Lightwave. Trees can get very polygon heavy, but it depends on the export settings you define. They've got some sample trees on their site, too.

We got the Evermotion pack.. but meh. It is "for LW" but it is hardly optimized, organized or even consistent. It is poly heavy. So it does need work. Which I thought was stupid for such a pack.

Polas Tree/leaves Generators are great. Yes, you need to put in some time (apparantly even premade packs ain't that great) but you can then tune everything you want.

If anyone has experience with a great, LW compatible pack I'd be happy to hear it as well.

We've ordered and used some 3d trees from...
http://www.vbvisual.com/product_info.php?info=p178_VB-EXTERIORS-3D-Plants-complete.html.
They are very low poly trees so not good close up but great for medium to long distance shots. low poly as in 1000-2000 poly counts, roughly. they even have a free sample you can download.

i've used those in a few occasion, not 'botanically correct' like xfrog's, but quite low poly and looking nice when used as groups: http://www.marlinstudios.com/products/treefarm/treefarm.html.

otherwise, check also eon's vue program for tree generation (with LWO export) and their cornucopia site for ready trees...

personally, i like also to build trees with onyx tree, because you can optimize LWO generation up to the finest details.

cheers

Most vegetation packs need a bit of work to be fully lightwave ready, lightwave trees render much faster if you use clip maps instead of transparency maps, so I built a scene with all my trees and plants with ciip maps applied and I just load from scene when I need them. I also used UvtoWeight to set weight maps for the individual leaves and animated them using texture displacement to simulate wind going through them. Once you put in all the hard work you can reuse them over and over. I also included a set of 2d trees (real tree images with clip maps) that I use for the further away trees. I got those off of collada objects of houses I found in googles sketchup repository.

I have been hoping for years that TreeDesigner would be available for Mac again.
One of the most elegant Tree programs I have seen.
