View Full Version : Speed Edit 2 unable to play flash audio

The problem that I'm having with speed edit 2 and also the older versions of speed edit 1.5.5 is they will only play the video but not the associated audio of a flash clip. I have tried this on two different machines and I get the same results no sound. But other clips like AVI's etc work.

A seperate problem also seems to be working against me when I descovered that both my video Toaster 5.3 and Speed Edit 2 would not work on my Dell 690 Workstation (using Widows 7 64 bit and 10 gig of ram). I have been able to use this system in the past without any problems but it now seems to hang up when I open up Toaster 5.3 and go to Toaster Edit and access files on one or the other striped storage drives of video clips. If anyone has a clue as to whats going on I'd appreciate you dropping a line.

Wraping this up I thought that Steve of newtek developement on Speed Edit 2 was going to be releasing a needed patch to Speed Edit 2 like at the beginning of this year but nothing has happened on that field. Unfortunately because of a deadline that I was up against I had to do the project in Vegas Pro 9 which did get the job done but not with the ease of the unique tools of Speed Edit 2 such as subprojects etc. Having been a NewTek Customer since the Amiga days I have to say that I really feel abandoned by NewTek and I am concerned about the direction of this company and where their loyalties lie. I don't see the active posting on these forums that it once had for several of the NewTek products and I am wondering whats going on. There is nothing official being said or for that matter a statement coming from Tim Jenison himself to explain what is going on with for example the future of Speed Edit 2 or the fate of Videotoaster system. Im not sure that this will get anyone's attention at Newtek since whatever is going on information just isn't getting out. Now if someone said that I could upgrade my system to their 25,000.00 system I don't have the money to do this even trading my VT 5.3 system in for 10,000.00 and still needing to come up with 15,000.00 Don't get me wrong I would love to get my hands on one of these new Tricasters HD systems but it's way out of my price range for now and in the future. Newtek as priced themselves out of the price point that I can afford and the problem is I don't want to move on to some other commpany that I don't really know. Any official or unafficial information would be greatly appreicated.

Hi Rod,

Re Q1:
This is more a workaround as opposed to an absolute solution, but you could try using a third party application like AVS Video Converter (http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx) to convert the FLV file into a more SpeedEdit friendly AVI file and see how you go with that.

Re Q2:
I would try a bit of troubleshooting on this one. I'd try opening a video file into Toaster or SE from the local drive and see if that works ok. If yes, then the problem is with the raid setup, if no, the problem is more likely a software/hardware conflict or bad video file.

Re comment:
We all agree.

I recently had a flash supplied by client. It was a psudo hi def flash.
The video played fine but the audio was 96k. I have not found a video editor that would play the audio. I rendered the audio and video out with
the AVS converter and converted the file to 48k to use in the editor.
The video was also rendered to wide screen dv type 2 for use to author a DVD.
All worked fine.
