Hello,
I know this topic has probably been covered quite a few times already,. but I am trying to install lightwave 7.5 and every time I am left scratching my head due to the fact that i cant get it working!
Could someone please write an idiot proof list on installing lightwave 7.5,…
I have been trying to do it as follow:
1. put cd in drive
2. it autoruns and then tells me that I should install the sentinel driver and asks if I would like it to,..i click yes
3. it says it wants a reboot,….so I restart it
4. start setup again,…. It says that I don’t have the sentinel drivers installed,…knowing that I do,… I take the warning onboard and quickly dismiss it
5. do a full install other then the sentinel drivers
6. tells me that no key was detected at the end of the install
after it finishs installing,…it gives a ,… no key found,…running in demo mode

I assume you are using a USB dongle? Make sure your parallel port is enabled, the USB dongle still needs that for some reason. Try browsing your CD and install the Sentinel drivers manually, they should be in their own directory. While doing this, make sure the dongle is NOT installed. After you finish installing the drivers, then plug the dongle in.
You might also want to try downloading the latest Sentinel drivers from the rainbow website. I seem to remember having the same difficulties using the drivers on the XP CD-ROM for LW.

Ok thanks for the info,..
Now lets suppose for a sec that this particular pc(infact all our cad lab pcs) do not actually physically have a parralell port,... This would cause a problem,...am i right?

The new dongles are USB based.

my dongle is a usb dongle but mattclary said i needed to make sure my parallel port was enabled,....but we don't actually have any!
So basically I can't run lightwave?

Yeah, that might be a problem. I personally use a parallel dongle, but I have read in several places that you have to have the parallel drivers for the USB dongle to work. Try installing the latest sentinel drivers from the Rainbow site as stated by Maxx. if that doesn't work, call Newtek support ASAP. I'm thinking it is the lack of a parallel port.

for xp you need to download a new rainbow driver, from rainbow.com web, be cause on lw cd was not updated for xp.
superkey pro driver.

The updated drivers must only be for USB dongles, cause I have never updated the drivers for my parallel dongle and LW works perfect. BTW, I'm running Windows XP Professional. Man I'm glad I got LW long enough ago that I have the parallel dongle. :)

Yep, the driver on the CD works just fine for me (parallel dongle) on XP. That's both the 6.5cd and the 7.5cd (at different times, different machines).

Not sure if this will help but something similar is mentioned on this thread
http://vbulletin.newtek.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5932
something about enabling the parellel port in bios even if you dont have a 'physical' port.
ooops i meant to say that it's mentioned down at the bottom of this thread... hope this helps at least a little.

I remember having problems getting the dongle working when I reinstalled Lightwave on XP after having Win98 on the machine before. I think I had to go to the web site and download the latest version of the drivers to make it work.
However, I'm 90+% sure I had the parallel port disabled in the BIOS on my old PC and Lightwave ran, and I think I have it disabled on the new one, so maybe that issue was fixed by the new drivers.

thanks for all the responses,..
i still have not got it working,
I will check the bios when i am at work next.
I am running the drivers off the website,.. windows detects the dongle ok,..
is there a possibility that there is something wrong with the dongle its self??(its a usb one) also things like service pack 1 wouldnt effect it would they?? is there any other sort of sensetivities that i should be on the look out for??
i am almost to the point where i am going to format the computer put a clean install of XP pro on it and install light wave see if it works.
I tried install it on a computer with a parallel port and still couldnt get it working.

HELP!!
i've posted messages throughout the forums and I'm coming here in desperation because this post it somewhat similar to my issue.
LW 7.5 (no b or c) will not run on my XP machine.
All copies of all software are legit, purchased, and have dongles...as a note to some. I have called tech support they just shrug and say "go to the forums".
Everytime I install LW it works for a bit. I either leave the machine idle or shut it down and when I come back to it (2nd, 3rd or fourth time after a LW session or after a reboot) LW won't even open. In WIN XP it references the "enved3.dll" file. I have reinstalled windows 2000 and I have the same issue now, even though LW was working fine before. I tried the latest rainbow drivers, my parallel dongle is enabled. I even bought a new ATI 9000 PRO w/ 128. I downloaded the discovery edition of LW and it too crashed. I have even tried a new hard drive. it still crashes. I am not sure what else I can do. if anybody has any help, I would appreciate any words of advice.

Have you tried to get a friend with XP to search for that DLL file and copy it to your machine in the correct place? Might sound too simple, but its worth a shot.

The enved3.dll file is a newtek dll that resides in the programs folder of the lightwave directory. I don't know anybody else close to me that has LW on an XP box.
Can you right click on yours and tell me the "date modified" and the size of the dll?

My enved3.dll is 644 KB (659,456 bytes) and was created Sunday March 24, 2002 5:06:50 PM

FWIW:
On my XP machine the file is on the same date but at 13:06. It's probably just a time/local conversion thing.
The file size, though, is different. Mine is: 656 KB (671,744 bytes).
There is no Version resource attached to this file so I can get an actual build version or anything.

Thats weird, would version number change the size of that file any? I'm using 7.5c on XP Pro.

what graphics card do you use? Mattaclary is suspecting it's my card and an open gl thing.

The version shouldn't change the file by over 10K I would think. I also have 7.5C on XP Pro.
If you're up for trying it, I would be willing to ZIP up and send my env3d.dll file to you and let you "replace" yours with the one I send. Granted, you will definintely want to back yours up first. Oh, and I am not responsible if something goes bad wrong, etc., etc.
If the "what graphics card" question was for me, I use an nVidia 5600 FX 256MB.
rotoman12

If you could zip that to me, i will take all risk. hey, i've reformatted this same drive three times trying to fix this problem, I can do it again if needed.
What motherboard and procesor you running?

If the "what graphics card are you using?" was for me, I have an nVidia GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB card with 512 MBs of RAM. My computer is only a single P3 800 Mgz.

I have sent you an e-mail, rotoman12. If you don't get it, give me a hollar.
As far as my motherboard and processor, I have a Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 with a P4 2.8 Hyer-threaded processor.
I have the 7.5 CD for installation, and have upgraded to the 7.5C version via download. Whenever I re-install I always put on the 7.5 CD version, then just apply the 7.5C update. That shouldn't cause the file to be as different as yours I would think.
I hope that helps!

Guys,
I reformatted the machine. Reinstalled WIN XP pro, installed the nvidia drivers (because I went out and bought the FX 5600 128 meg AGP)
Installed lw and modeller...nothing else instralled yet..
Cross your fingers...knock on wood...It's working OK up to this point. I'm reluctant to type anymore or install more programs for fear of it crashibg. I did yank out my pinnacle systems DV500 PCI card. That may be it. Of course, it may have just been the ATI card and I needed to reformat to clean all ATI references out.
At this point I don't want to try any upgrades to B or C yet...just want to wait a bit to see what happens with this
I'll keep you posted.

Excellent! Now keep playing with it to verify it isn't broken. Once you are sure, pick something to add and re-test thogoughly. Keep doing this until you figure out which piece causes the break.

Allright....
Installed AOL instant messenger and LW crashes...referencing the enved3.dll file. Again, I ma using win XP now.
Commotion pro crashes as well.
So, I uninstalled AOL and will uninstall LW and commotion and then install again. Worse comes to wores, I can reformat again...ditch AOL messenger and see if that is the devil doing this, although I wouldn't know why it would be.
