In the past I have had problems playing SE2 timelines out through the BlackMagic Intensity Pro. Randomly the playback of a stereo audio track will go out of sync between the Right and Left channels. Usually, just enough to sound out of phase but sometimes a distinct delay like a slap echo.
Now the problem is getting worse and sometimes there is a huge delay between Right and Left channels.
This happens when multiple audio clips are on the timeline and also with a rendered stereo track. Each time you play it it sounds different and sometimes the delay increases as it plays longer, like 5 minutes and you notice it and 7 minutes it's obvious. 10 minutes, you can't stand it?!*&
This audio problem comes out of the BlackMagic analog and digital outputs with the same problem.

Anyone experienced it?

I've found a workaround.
I use my Intensity Pro only for playing back video via S-video (to my DVD Recorder. I use my other audio card - Saffire Pro 10 i/o as the audio output.
There is a 15 frame delay in the video output which I fix by sliding my audio 15 frames later, on my timeline in SE2.
This produces excellent audio and video.

I don't know what went wrong with the BlackMagic Intensity Pro.
I think it might have to do with the updates for software and drivers from their site. Even though they mention an audio problem that the update fixes, they don't mention what the audio problem consisted of.

:help:
OK, I don't think it's totally the fault of the Intensity Pro. Well, maybe the Left/Right offset is, but, I am still having audio problems with my other audiocard.

I am trying to record to a DVD recorder right from the timeline of SE2 and I've done it before successfully using the Intensity S-video and analog audio outputs. The Intensity down converts my 1080i timeline in real time.
I got the first 3 segments transferred by rendering them to SpeedHQ project settings and they played well to the DVD.
Now I have been trying to get the final 50 minute rendered SpeedHQ clip, to play properly but the audio keeps crackling and gapping out while playing. I've tried defragging the disc that is 80% full, I've tried both soundcards...
... and still the audio won't play perfectly. It is 48k sampling rate stereo 16bit. Preferences are set for PCM

:question::question::question:
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what to try next?

Solved the problem.
:)
I re-installed SE2 and the audio now works well on both of my audio cards. Must have been started during a BlackMagic upgrade of their driver. I guess I have to install SE2 - after- the driver upgrade.

Maybe??? Maybe not.

I have now documented my experience for posterity :agree:

Is that the only problem you had with the BM card? I want one too but not if its too problematic. As long as it's 99% good I'll get it. I'm no stranger to eccentricities, I have a few myself.

That's the only problem, and I'm not totally sure it was the BM card or SE2's functionality, working with the card. The other thing that annoys me is that, SpeedHQ files won't play in the Media Express player software that comes with BlackMagic products. It's not really optimized for use with SpeedEdit but it works very well as an output card when it isn't playing havock with SE audio playback.

I think I have finally solved the audio delay problem using the Intesity card as playback from SE2 timeline.
:dance::jam::thumbsup:

Problem:
I was using the Intensity as the default soundcard for my computer. I was also using the Intensity as the playback device from within SpeedEdit. This results in a delay and repetition of the sound from the same output device.

Solution:
I enabled the computer's internal soundcard and assigned it as the default soundcard. Now when I use the BlackMagic Intensity, I get no delayed/repeated sound.
Now it is again possible to play the timeline onto my stand-alone DVD recorder deck. This allows for instant resizing of 1080i timelines into an SD analog signal..... and it looks and sounds real good.!!!
