Hello,

Could you lease add compatibility for the Kodak Zi8 .mov audio. Video plays great. No audio. Little strange in that the previous models (Zx1, Zi6) .mov files played great.

Link to short 5 second clip with audio and very bad video (low light AND digital zoom eewww) if needed for testing.

thank you
Jim

(cross posted for the sake of NT engineers who might only look here)

It does work.... :scratch head:

I have my VT/SE system set up in a dual boot. All Newtek and production software on one side, all games and play on the other.

Just for the heck of it I tried to launch Speed Edit from the Games side and it started with the 15 day trial. I threw the Zi8 clips on the timeline and VIOLA.. audio works perfectly.

So it must be a codec thing. I don't know what I have installed on the game side that allows it that I don't have on the production side but I'll try and find out.

So.. good news.. I think.

It plays just fine in SE2 on my laptop, Jim. How do you like the camera? I read somewhere that it didn't seem as good as the Flip in lower light conditions, but (apart from being a little bigger) that was about the only shortcoming I've seen mentioned. Well, that and the fact that it isn't 1080i.

Keeping in mind what it is (a ~$100 HD camera) I love it. I've never used a Flip so I don't know about the comparison, but it is noisy in really low light but meh... what to expect. It's pretty impressive with plenty of light tho.

I went with first with the Kodak Zx1 which is 720p and now the 1080p Zi8 because they had better options than the Flip.

-replaceable batteries instead of built in (Flip Ultra did add this)
-separate AC power in
-stereo mic input (Zi8 only)
-SD cards instead of built in memory (HUGE decision maker)
-1080 (Zi8 only)

The community is coming up with all kinds of ways to 'hack' them and add different lenses and filters, clever mounts and uses.

Yeah, looks like a nice little rig. They are closer to $180 up here, not that that isn't still crazy cheap.

B&H is currently running a special at $130 with refurbs at $100. I grabbed a refurb.

It quit working on the first use but it turned out to be that any non-Kodak battery fits a little loose in the battery compartment. I wrapped a piece of gaff around the edge of the battery and all is well.
