There's an interesting thread running over on CGT...

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=6657829

concerning the setup, and animation options of root controllers for characters. Lots of good information and ideas, and since its just an issue about hierarchy and space theory, is a pretty much package independent topic.

Anyhow... here's my input on the thread, in video form, as seen through a typical setup in LW.

Hope other find this info helpful, any input, or alternative ideas welcome.

RebelHill, Thank you for the consise, well formulated video. I would hope to be able to understand and implement it with careful study, but for now, I can only appreciate the clarity and ease with which you navigate the rigging terrain. Well done sir...

I set the cog at belly button level.
I see your point though. Offset might be the way to go here really.
Being a lazy bugger I want to do as little work as possible and a belly button placement, for me atleast, gives nice animation and weight distribution in most cases.
It does cause probs when the character is sitting, standing on knees etc.

Good vid. I learned from it.
