in most scenes, the windows are lit are nite, how is it done?

Not quite sure what you mean. Post an example of what you are looking for. Do you mean camera is inside or camera is outside looking in?

I tend to use luminosity and radiosity to get a glow effect on windows. Or you can put area lights up against the window panes if you want to avoid radiosity.
