is it possible to export a lightwave object into blender with the maps and subD kept intact. i've tested saving a cone with subd in lightwave, but when i open it in blender the object doesn't have the subD. it's no longer smooth.

is this possible to do?

Blender has it's own SubD's so just export the model from LW with subd's off, then import into Blender and smooth it there. Not sure about the maps though. You may have to create UV's, export as an .obj, then open in Blender and reapply the textures.
