Render Passes ?

Well I've got all my assets together, I did the last render tests. And I'm about ready to set up the scenes that will be rendered. The scene is in a forest so I have Kray (demo for now) for the trees. I was thinking of doing the scenes like they did most of Speed Racer (Movie), that is render out the background as a panoramic and then do a second pass with the characters in an image globe or whatever it is called. I did try to render out a 360 panoramic but all I got was a solid green render. All I know is that it worked until I changed the camera settings. Is this possible with Kray? Or would there be a better way. Maybe render out the camera view and then do a front projection backdrop? Any ideas, thoughts, anyone try anything like this before?

If your camera is set and done, I would render the background out and comp it in a different application.
Breaking thing up is always a good thing if you would like to change some ch-anim l8r on, you dont have to render out the whole scene.

Never tried the idea with a panoramic.. sound like it should work deasent thou.
