On an over scanned view of both fade DVEs on the left side you will see a verticle bar on the left side of the second source before it fades in. This isn't a problem if viewing on a tv but for using the edited footage for the web it is a problem unless you crop the left side when encoding.

Yes, I've been seeing this for years in Newtek Software, and other software. My personal opinion (not a fact) is that it boils down to the DVE being rendered with 720x480 or 720x486 and 'keep aspect ratio' reconciliation issues. In crucial issues I have laid a black border Targa image over the entire final video to crop it as you mentioned, because I couldn't fix it in the software.
Are you noticing it with SD or HD transition DVEs? Because now that you mention it, I actually haven't seen is since I have been editing in HD (for the last 3 years).
Who knows, maybe bugs do disappear with time... he said wishfully.
Maybe this has to do with the cropped Overscan in most dve's on the frontlayer. I made an uncropped fade dve some time ago, where the front- and the backlayer have the same size. You can download it at: http://www.petzfx.com/dve.html
Hope it helps!
