Could anyone tell me an easy way to manipulate an AVCHD 1920 X 1080i file with a DV file on the same timeline. Would it be easier to render the file to another format. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sure - use the Filebin context menu item Convert to SpeedHQ for a quick conversion to a friendly format.

Does this make it into a monster size file? If so, can you customize the format into a smaller size?

No, SpeedHQ files are a reasonable size, even for HD purposes.
