I have a sony NXCam HXR NX5U
The Camera records AVCHD clips using a M2Ts file
I imported the clips into my computer and the sony file utility can play the clip well. When I drag the M2TS files into my timeline, I am not able to play them with the audio. The sony viewer utility plays the clip with sound.
How do I get Speededit 2 to play the clip and let me edit with sound.

In the SE file bin where the MT2S file resides right-click the file and select Convert to SpeedHQ, tell it where to save the file, then edit with the resulting file. It's a very fast process and you can batch convert a bunch of files by Shift- or Ctrl- selecting a bunch of files.

In SE2, you can multi-select clips and then press render and it will automatically batch render them :)

Check your private messages. I sent you one about your camera.

Thanks,

Does rendering to SpeedHQ have much effect on the quality of the original video?

I don't know what the bug is there, sound like SE does not have the necessary audio codec, but If I was in your shoes & I had to have the sound I would use the SE Record Voiceover function (It's the one after Capture Window in the first Menu) and press record while you are playing the file in the Canon Media Player. Anything you play with your soundcard will get captured by the recorder, then you use that file, and sync it to your video, make the video and the audio into a subproject which you can then cut up & move around.

It isn't what you want to have to do every time but it will save you in a difficult situation.

In the mean time, keep asking and see it someone at Newtek can help you get SE to recognize other codecs on your computer.
