View Full Version : TEMPGEnc and T[3]

I'm obviously missing something here. I'm trying to convert a 70 minute T[3] project to DVD, using TEMPGEnc and DVD Workshop. When I import the T[3] project as my "video source" and leave the "audio source" blank, I get an MPEG2 with no audio - actually it claims to have audio, but there is nothing there. If I use the T[3] project for the video source and the audio source, I get a "not supprted" error message. If I use the T[3] project for the video source and the wave file from the same project, I get the "not supported" message again. What am I doing wrong?

Steve,
Have you run the 3rd Party configuration utility in the VT[3] start menu? That will provide TMPEGEnc with the files it needs to directly load a VT[3] edit project.

I was under the impression that it was automatic if TMPGEnc was on the system when T[3] was installed. I just ran the installer and I'll let you know if that solves the problem.

BTW: This was my first post here and I'm sorry it wound up in the wrong forum. I'll watch that in the future.

I have used the TMPEGEnc for many DVD's and works well. Make sure that you have the rtv import tool as Paul spoke about. In the opening window of the program, click on and select the ES(Video Only). In the video source window, go and get your video and select that. TMPEGEnc will automatically load an audio source. Manually erase everything from that window and when you render, use that file for the video source and the wav file for the sound. If you do not erase the audio source window in TMPEGEnc, it will render an unsupported format. Try that and see how it works. Once I got the right settings down, the program has worked very well. I bought the license and got the plus version and it has been well worth the money.

Is the latest version of TMPGenc any faster at encoding mpeg2 than previous versions? I try to keep the best quality settings to get the best results on DVD but it takes so long to convert files. (eg. 7min video can take up to 5 hours)
Currently I am running a P4 1.8Ghz with a gig of memory...not the fasted pc on the market I know... hoping to upgrade soon.
It just seems it should be faster... or maybe I need more patience.

I have used LSX 3.5 and it runs fairly quickly, but even it's highest setting doesn't have the same quality I get with TMPGenc.

Anywho, thats it...

Peter, what specific settings do you mean, I had a single P4 1.7GHz before and never had times as slow as that.

I want to thank everyone for all the help. Re-installing the 3rd party drivers solved the immediate problem. After that I wasted a LOT of hours because of a stupid mistake.

In DVD Workshop, the default path for saving projects is C:/Documents and settings etc... even though I was changing the "Working Directory" in the burn DVD phase, I was running out of disk space on the C: drive while executing the project. DVD WS would go to about 50% of the first step instantly and then creep on from there for hours. Now that I know what was going on, I'm burning DVDs like crazy!

I hope this helps someone else.

Thanks Again!

Steve

CBR 6000kbs or 8000kbs (depends on the project)
Noise Reduction (default settings) (this is what slows the process down)
Highest Quality Motion search

Those are the only settings that I change from their defaults.

Ouch! Yeah, noise reduction would do it...

Is your source VHS or something?

Does this mean that TMPEGEnc is already part of VT3, or that I should get TMPEGEnc and then do this process? I haven't quite gone this far into the program, but it's coming. The reason I ask is that I participated in the recent poll request and it asked what I thought about VT3's DVD capability. Which implies that VT3 can do DVDs by itself, at least that's what I read into the question.

Thanks,

TW

It's not included, but we just got it last week and once we got the plugin, everything was pretty automatic.
So easy to use even I figured it out! :D

Yeah, it was amusing how the survey did seem to suggest that VT[3] itself did DVD authoring... Not quite.

You need to encode your video to MPEG-2. I recommend buying TMPGEnc for that.

Then you need to author your DVD. I recommend buying DVD Workshop AC3 for that.

Then you need to burn your DVD. I recommend buying RecordNow Max for that.

Hey Eugene!

I was recently on the phone with Newtek Support and I needed a number from the VT ABOUT window. While I'm on the phone, the names scroll by...and there you are! And Steve Bowie...and Paul, and, and, I'm sure a few others I'll come to know and love. :D

Anyway, BIG KUDOS to the Newtek Support team, especially Donny and Kurtis. And to John at BOXX, together they nailed it.

(SO glad they didn't harm any animals.) :p
