Okay, I give up. What have I not done? I'm migrating over to Windows 7, I bought a new drive, fresh install, downloaded updates, installed Lightwave 9.6. Every time I start LW I get, "The program can't start because QtCore_64_4.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem." This happens with Layout and Modeler, although they do both start and seem to run fine. Any wisdom?

Oops, didn't purpose to be vague. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, installed Lightwave 9.6 64-bit. The rest of the specs in my sig are current.

Look like you have some dll's in your lw dir that should not be there. Are you sure your talking about 9.6 and not HC?

Yeah I haven't bought HC, so that's not possible. This is the 9.6 download from the Registration page that I've installed in XP 64 as well without this error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but I get the exact same error. I left all the default settings alone for the installer as well.

Does Turbulence ring a bell, it uses that DLL.

You know, I was thinking to try installing that, but then my question is why does the LW installer need a DLL from a 3rd party plug-in?

*edit* ... And sure enough, installing TFD cleared that error message. Thanks for the clue Daniel!

Yes, that's Turbulence. No clue why it needs it, but it does. Also on all your rendernodes running lwsn mind you.

Then again, Turbulence does seem to do some rather nice thing of allowing you to keep checking simulation results in LW while it is simulating etc. Regardless, I'm fine with .dll's if they produce such nice results.

I just did a intergoogle search for that dll, gota love the intergoogle's.

I take it you used a backup of your config files?

From what I understand QT (not the apple product) has something to do with the user interface design of programs and even Lightwave CORE uses it.

I tried interwebgoogologying that dll as well, and the first hit pointed me back to the thread here on TFD. :) What I did not do yet is install LW 32 bit, so that's worth doing.

Actually I didn't use a backup of configs or anything, just straight, clean installs of everything, which is why I was thinking, "surely I don't need to install this plug-in…"

I'm glad it's working, it's more of a curiosity now than anything.

Do you have autoscan plugins on in general options? Then it would load the plugin regardless of clean install and explain why it wants it.
