Joints and Bones - Some Questions

Heya, I've got a couple questions on joints and bones that I can't seem to pin the answer on. the "What's New" guide didn't really clarify it and I've searched on the forums and 'net in general to no avail. Maybe my search-fu is lacking today. Anyway, here they are:

1. What exactly is the difference between Joints and Bones?
2. Does one do anything better/worse than the other?
3. Is there any situation where one would be more beneficial to use than the other?
4. Any specific "Do Not Do's" with Joints or Bones, especially as they relate to each other?

I google searched this inquiry and found this thread. I checked out your signature links and my mind is BLOWN AWAY! You are incredible! I am definitely checking out the tutorial trial and probably am going to make the investment in the full tutorials! I am so glad I found this thread!
