View Full Version : On Screen Video Out resolution

I seem to be having an issue on one of my machines running Speed Edit 1.5.5. On all but one system, when you resize the output window, the video resizes as well, but on one machine, resizing the window crops the video. I've looked in preferences for a switch for this but couldn't find anything.

The project I'm working on seems to play back better when the window is small, and it will only playback poorly on this one system.

Any ideas?

If you right click on the window it gives you options of the viewing size. Pick one that works for you.

Mine does not offer any options. Right clicking opens a window to select Background Color between Gray, Black, and White, and for Fielding with "Both Fields", "First Field Only", and "Simulate Device Aspect Aspect Ratio" options, neither of which achieve the effect I'm hoping for.

I've also noticed in the lower left corner of the video output display, there's a label saying the Project is set for 1440X1080i, 29.97 fps, and the Display is 720 X 540p, no matter how I resize the window.

On machines that are working properly there is a list of other options, and the screen can be scaled to whatever size you want. For some reason this one machine doesn't have these options. I can't find any option to turn anything on or off. Anyone have any ideas?

The reason I need this option is I'm cutting 1080i footage, and it seems scaling the video out window down smaller allows for smoother playback. With this option missing, the playback is at a fixed, large size, and everything stutters.

Hi Bob,

The problem lies with the preferences for the preview window.

You'll need to do this.

Go to the menu bar at the top of the SE window and click:

Window>Preferences

Then scroll down to the OUTPUT section of the Preferences window that opens up.

Look for the "Video Output Window Qualith (Requires Restart)" option and to the right of if it will possibly say "Low Quality (least functionality ....... etc)".

Change this to "High Quality (Most functionality ....... etc)", and restart SE.

When SE starts up again, "Right Click on the SpeedEdit Output preview window" and you should see an option in the list for "Best fit". Click that, and you should be able to fit your footage in the window with the correct aspect ratio, no matter what size the window is.

Hope this helps.

Shabazzy, you nailed it. The problem was once the playback started looking poor, someone switched the screen resolution to low, and all the options went away. Switching back to High Res brought back the options and the Best Fit options, and everything I needed.

Thanks so much for your help!
