Beta beta..

Same workflow as XSI plugin.
Exports CGF, copies textures and writes a mtl.
Check the read me in the zip before testing.

Think you have to wait for Crysis 2 to be released which is xmas this year?

AMAZING!! AMAZING!! AMAZING!!....
AMAZING!! AMAZING!! AMAZING!!....
I could go on, but I'm sure you'll all get bored!
Honestly, this is going to be amazing! The 3ds max exporter is pretty hard to get anything out of unless the modelling and texturing follow VERY stringent rules.
What are the rules to follow? Will it only accept one UV map? and will this work in CryEngine3?
I'm going to be playing with this forever! Thanks!!!

No you can have how many UV maps you want - remember they will be merged to one in the end though because cryengine only have 1 per asset.
Right now there seems to be an UV issue with quads sometimes... Will fix it when I get time but if you get some wierd error tripple in LW. (The model get's trippled anyway :) )
If you have assigned .tga as textures these get's converted to dds and copied to your exportfolder as well. Something the other exporters don't do and can be a pain to do manually. This works for diffuse spec and bump - with correctly written .mtl
Can be a few gotchas to get started, if you need any help you can contact me via skype, msn or mail!

Willy Beamish 3d!
First one to spot it :)
Had this idea of turning the great old game into a short... It's a cool story

Hey Johan!
Any further developments on this? Just wondering if there was anything else nifty added? Currently still using 3ds max for exporting, but would like to try using Lightwave as i prefer it for modelling.
:D

Well.. No longer working where we were using cryengine.
See if I can dig up my tutorials I made. What does work in this exporter should be geometry and physics setup in layout. Not any character stuff. I tested that with cryengine 3 beta tho.. Better get my hands on the release version and test it..

Oh no... that's a shame! I've just tried it in CryEngine 3 and am getting some unusual smoothing, even on a simple cube and sphere. Seems the sphere is split horizontally in terms of smoothing, and it has some nasty dark smoothing lines around the middle. The cube just has a corner where it isn't quite right... just seems odd that's all. If I remove all smoothing from them it is alright, but obviously not smooth :D
If you have any spare minutes of your time, i'd love to know what I'm doing wrong!
Thanks Johan!

Hmm, all tris?
Ooops... just realised you put that in a post earlier... sorry for wasting your time!! :D I'll give that a go tomorrow!
Thanks!

Tried it all as tri's and the sphere still causes some smoothing issues... seems to be working mostly okay though.
Wish Newtek could take this on, and have a fully-fledged exporter... that would be awesome.

Sorry to keep on... also seem to be having problems with UV maps at the moment too. It was a DP Tree model, with UV'd leaves, and the UV's don't seem to come through. The materials do, but the texture is all mushed on the leaves. The UV's are obviously overlapping, but this shouldn't matter should it?
I exported to FBX, brought it into Max, then exported from there, and the UV's work fine. (Despite the exporter throwing up errors)
Anything I could be doing wrong on the UV front?

well cryengine can only handle one UV, so make sure polys are not shared between maps etc.
hm hard to check without having the engine.. maybe they have changed stuff in cgf.
you could have a look at the george bush model I exported in the video, maybe it can give you some clues
ye the max exporter is crazy solid... :)

Thanks for your help... not sure about the 1 UV thing. I know what you mean, but isn't that per node exported? Can't I have the branches and leaves as separate nodes attached to the same null, and then it would have 2 UV maps? Technically they would be 2 models, but as one in the engine? This, i think, appears to be how the 3ds max exporter works, but I could be mistaken.
Anyway, thanks a million for your model, I'll take a look and see what I can do.
By the way, how much effort and time and how difficult/how much expertise does one have to possess to code the exporter? I just wondered if there's anyone I know that could have a go?
Your models on your site are very nice indeed... you don't shout about your work enough :D

Also Johan,
Just wondering what version of the RC.exe this will work with? I've just tried my version of Snadbox 2 at home, the one off the DVD game of Crysis 1, and the RC fails in Windows 7 Ultimate. It just says it has stopped working and Windows closes it.
I realise I'm asking lots of questions, which is exactly what a developer never wants when they develop a plugin for free and then don't want to support it :D Sorry, but your help is greatly appreciated! :D

hm ye rc.exe.... lot to choose from! for v2 I used the one from crysis wars.
yes, each geometry node - one UV
hope I can get my dirty hands on the engine again.. then I can help you better :)

Ahhhhh, the crysis wars one... I don't own that... i thought it may have been, so I'm halfway through downloading the demo, but unfortunately the CryMod site has been down all day, so can't grab the RC.exe for it.
Not long until the final release of the engine, they reckon by the summer! Too long though :D
Thanks for your help, you've made a great exporter and I'm going to try and put it to good use.

couldnt find my tutorials.. :(
for example I exported their breakable sign and the deformable barrel for v3 fine from lw, exactly the same result as from maya. so it is possible... :)

No worries, thanks for looking for them! I've done quite a bit of modelling stuff for the cryengine 3, just hitting a few stumbling blocks as I'm used the 3ds max way of doing it... although, the Lightwave plugin seems to work lovely too! Just need to get my head around the quirks again as it's been nearly a year since I did the last stuff.
Still can't thank you enough for the exporter :D

Fiiiiinally got the exporter working, but now getting these errors still. On a tripled mesh, and it looks nasty.
Tried a few things that I thought may do something, like add a weight map called flat, or add UV's but now it's not even compiling!! Don't get it! :D
