Just been playing about trying to make nice ripples in water with rain, just felt i should share it, :)

Looks very cool Dave. The reflecction adds a nice touch.

The only thing I could say about it is the first few drops that hit the water look especially nice and make the appropriate ripples outward, but then the later ones don't seem to have much the same effect and don't display that characteristic outward rippling. Why is that I wonder?

If that's just playing about I'd love to see the effect implimented into a full scene.

About the later drops that dont have as much affect i think its because they are having to compete with the ripples that were made earlyer. where as the first drops dont have any ripples to compete with.

Are you using a displacement map?

I figured as much about the later rain drops, I was just noting that the later drops don't look as realistic because they seem to just disappear once they hit the water and don't displace the water realistically like the first ones. Still looks great though.

Click HERE (http://www.3dink.com/raindrops.mov) for a MD test....I basically tweaked the file listed above by adding an emitter and FXlinking the ball/drops to particles.
Im not trying to overtake this thread, just had to try it out!

Very nice. Could you explain how you linked
the drop objects to the particles?

Many thanks,

Carl

Make an emitter, drop some particles.
Load a ball, use FXlinker to link clones of the balls to the particles.
walla!
:)

Thanks. I do that but when I start the MD Controller it takes about 1 min for each frame
to finish, even with only about 10 balls linked.

Is that "normal"?
